THE DUKES LANCASTER TECHNICAL SPEC – RAKE THEATRE November 2020 LIGHTING

Lighting Positions

The Rake Theatre has two fixed lighting bridges Front of House. The main bridge has two bars at heights of 6.2m and 7.2m from the stage floor. This bridge is 5m DS of the proscenium arch. The other bridge has a bar at a height 6.2m above the stage and is 12m DS of the proscenium arch.

Also Front of house, there are two 4m high vertical booms - one on either side wall. These are 5m from the proscenium. There are also two 5m long horizontal bars each side that run from the proscenium to the booms.

On Stage, there are four winched LX bars at a height of 5.6m approx from the stage floor and 12m long. There are two further LX bars in the upstage ‘well’ area, hauled via hemp lines. These are at a height of 5.4m approx. and are 6m long.

Dimmers & Patching Phasing is split between FOH, Grid and Dips. The Main FOH bridge has a local IEC patch panel enabling 24dimmers to be patched to 48 evenly spaced 15A sockets along the bridge. Other FOH positions (Advance, Bridge2 & Booms) run to an IEC patch panel in the dimmer room which enable patching to a further 24 dimmer ways.

In the grid there are 42 ways of dimming via 15A socket boxes which distribute to the LX bars via multicore. There are also 6 ways of dimming on the proscenium booms via 15A outlets. These circuits are duplicated on each side of the stage. There is a hard power & DMX line to each onstage LX bar.

At Floor level, there are four dips downstage, mid & upstage. The down & upstage dips pair with the opposite side, but the mid dips are all separate. In addition, there are eight dips in the upstage ‘well’ area. All of the dips run back to an IEC patch panel in the dimmer room giving 12 or 24 ways of dimming. NOTE: The dip patch is shared with The Round theatre, so the number of dimmer ways available is dependent on production requirements.

Lighting Equipment

The following list shows equipment allocated to this space. There is also a shared ‘pool’ of various lanterns which are allocated according to production demands at the time, please call to discuss requirements.

Please note that our FOH bridge consists of a fixed general single colour wash covering downstage and midstage. This is split into 5 areas down, 5 mid using two lanterns per area. We are happy to re-patch / re-focus, but prefer to make the minimum of adjustments due to time constraints on Get-in day. Further information can be seen on our plans.
